Exploring Your Universe at UCLA
Exploring Your Universe (EYU) is one of UCLA’s biggest annual events, drawing in thousands of children, parents, and friends from the Los Angeles community to our campus on the first Sunday in November. Organized by UCLA graduate students and run by volunteers, this science fair has been a tradition to provide a day of free science education to all. For ten years, EYU has provided fun, hands-on experiments and presentations to curious minds and young future scientists alike. Every year, UCLA invites a notable alumni as a guest speaker and an awardee of the Science and Education Pioneer Award. This year's recipient was Mayim Bialik, B.S. Neuroscience '00, Ph.D. '07, bestselling author, star in "The Big Bang Theory," and advocate for STEM education and women in science.
In honor of UCLA's centennial celebration year, EYU's branding was overhauled. The mission was to appeal to a wide variety of ages, especially young children and teens under 18 years old. It needed to be fun, vibrant, and exciting, while maintaining the essence of UCLA's brand.
To create the logo, elements were pulled from the look and feel that had been previously established for the division of Physical Sciences. The semi-circle pattern in which the iconography was arranged references scientific imagery such as an asteroid field or the view of specimens under a microscope. Following certain restrictions for a student-owned event, "at UCLA" was included in place of the official UCLA logo. This is to be the established logo for all consecutive years. However, to honor UCLA's year of celebration, an exclusive logo was created with the official UCLA 100 Years mark to be used for this year only. Certain evergreen pieces do not feature the 100 mark, such as the step-and-repeat banner, while other ephemeral pieces do, such as the snapchat filter or souvenir poster.

Field Guide
The Field Guide is an interactive brochure meant to engage visitors by challenging them to visit each of the different categories of booths. After filling out the Guide, a prize bag including the tattoo sheet and other UCLA swag can be earned. To further the impact of the event, a commemorative souvenir poster was designed on the opposite side of the Guide, with the idea that visitors could return and collect each consecutive year's poster. And in the spirit of of the event, the poster and Field Guide is designed to inspire youth to get involved and be excited about the sciences and the world around them.
